Recently, the first 300 MW unit of the 600 MW Laos Monsoon Wind Project – Asia's first cross-border renewable power transmission project, EPC-contracted by PowerChina – has achieved commercial operation, boosting Laos' energy transition and regional green power supply.

The 600 MW Monsoon Wind Project, located in Laos' Sekong and Attapeu provinces, is the country's first wind power initiative and Southeast Asia's largest single-site wind farm. Developed by PowerChina's Huadong Engineering Corporation with China Hydroelectric Tenth Engineering Bureau and Hubei Electric Power Construction, the project features 133 x 4.5 MW turbines, substations, and 500 kV transmission lines, with an estimated annual output of 1.72 billion kWh.Upon completion, the clean electricity will be aggregated through four 115 kV substations, then transmitted via a 500 kV substation and cross-border lines to Vietnam's grid, effectively alleviating power shortages in central Vietnam.
